The BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations dictate that, where street lighting or other equipment is assessed as critical, surge protection must be installed. Voltage surge arresters are designed to protect your circuits against indirect lightning strikes and high voltage spikes caused by switching of high inductive loads.
Most on-board surge protection devices in luminaires and other equipment such as nodes and photocells are limited to surge voltages of between 6-10kV. If a surge in excess of these occurs, the luminaire or other device will be destroyed. This would need urgent and costly replacement.
Our SPD provide essential cover for all your valuable electronic equipment. An indicator panel at the front of the unit shows the status and devices are pluggable. It can be replaced if degradation is noted during routine inspection and before failure occurs. Even where a surge-protection device is blown, more expensive luminaires and devices will be protected and preserved.
Our surge protection units can come pre-wired with tails for ease and speed of installation. The DIN rail surge protection device is the same size as an MCB. The plug can be replaced through the aperture so that the cover need not be removed, and device front clearly shows the type with its rated voltage and current.
